Our Treatment Toolbox

Preservative Free: Eye Lubricants, ointments and gels for extended nighttime lubrication.

Lacrisert: (a time released "pellet" you put into your eye daily...like a contact lens, only not as big).

Oasis Tears: preservative free lubricating drops which contain hyaluronic acid, great option for many of our patients.

Tear Savers: (tiny "plugs" made of silicone) we insert into that little hole you have in the corner of your lower eyelid - you have another 'hole' in your upper lid right above the lower one!  This allows tears to stay on the eye, kind of like putting the stopper in the kitchen sink

  • Dry Eye Explained

Dry eye is a highly common -- and complex -- eye condition. Tears lubricate the surface of the eye, protect against infection, and ensure clear vision. Dry eye can be associated with age, environmental irritants, certain medications, and medical conditions such as diabetes, thyroid problems, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Dry eyes can cause tremendous discomfort and irritation.

Dry eyes are caused by insufficient tear production or inadequate tear quality, causing eyes to become red and irritated, accompanied by a sensation similar to having dust or an eyelash in your eye. At The Illinois Dry Eye Center of Excellence, Dr. Haris Dzubur and his team offer effective relief for dry eyes.

  • Symptoms

The itchy, scratchy sensation associated with dry eye is more than just a sensation. The corneas of your eyes really are being damaged and the condition can lead to permanent vision loss. Other symptoms include:

    • Blurry/Fluctuating Vision

    • Itching

    • Burning

    • Tearing

• Pain

    • Inability to Wear Contacts

    • Eye Fatigue

    • Light Sensitivity

• Redness

  • The Complete Approach

Eye drops and ointments can help decrease your symptoms and lubricate your eyes in mild cases, but often do nothing to address the root of your problems. If you have an underlying condition, drops may actually aggravate your symptoms! Our doctors can recommend an individually formulated, multi-faceted treatment plan to relieve your painful, blurry vision without harming the balance of lipid and aqueous concentrations in your tears.
